  • Traffic falls toward your service. Move your pointer (or drag on a phone) to slide the firewall along the line.
  • Block the malicious packets — the red diamonds. Let the legitimate ones — the green squares — reach the service.
  • Blocking real traffic costs you exactly as much as letting an attack through. A firewall that blocks everything is not doing its job, which is the whole game. Eight strikes and you are down.

How it works

Traffic falls toward your service and you are the firewall. Move your pointer to slide it along the line: stop the malicious packets, and let the legitimate ones reach the service. The catch, and the entire game, is that blocking real traffic costs you exactly as much as letting an attack in — so a firewall parked over everything takes the service down just as fast as no firewall at all. The storm gets faster and nastier the longer you last, and eight mistakes end the shift. Runs on your device, nothing is sent anywhere, and there is nothing to sign up for.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I not just block everything?

Because blocking legitimate traffic costs a life exactly like letting an attack through. That is the actual trade-off a firewall rule makes: too loose and you get breached, too tight and you take your own service down. A run that parks the firewall in the middle and never moves lasts about fifteen seconds.

How do I tell the two apart?

Malicious packets are red diamonds and legitimate ones are green squares — different shape as well as different colour, so it works if you cannot distinguish red from green. The legend under the field stays on screen for the whole run.

Does it ever stop getting harder?

The packets fall faster, arrive more often and skew more malicious as you survive, but every one of those curves is capped — the field never becomes unreadable. You will lose eventually; the question is how much you get right first.
